History against India, will past haunt again?
After both the teams defeat against Pakistan they will meet each
other on 30th October. But this match will be a virtual decider of
who will go to the semi finals as both the teams are expected to easily defeat
the 3 new teams (Scotland, Namibia, Afghanistan) in the group 2.
So, in other sense it a do or die match for both teams. Although
the team that performs well on the day will win the match for sure, there is
always a phycological stands in the players and teams mind about the past. So, what
does past says about India vs New Zealand encounters in ICC events.
History does not seem to be in support of India. New Zealand
have heavily dominated India when it comes to ICC events encounter.
Let’s have a glance at those encounters.
1. 1999 ICC world cup, Super 6, Nottingham (NZ Won)
2. 2000 ICC Knockout Trophy, Nairobi (NZ won)
3. 2003 ICC world Cup, Super 6, Centurion (India won)
4. 2007 World T20 league, Johannesburg (NZ won)
5. 2016 T20 World Cup Super-10, Nagpur (NZ won)
6. 2019 ICC world Cup Semi-Final, Manchester (NZ won)
7. World Test Championship 2 match test Series (NZ won)
8. World Test Championship finals (NZ won)
So, in 9 encounters in ICC events India has managed to win
just once that too in 2003. So clearly New Zealand has dominated India in ICC
events.
I know as an Indian fan these are not good stats to peer
through just before the decider match, but it is what it is.
Virat and team has a lot to prove wrong with this match but can they keep those psychological stats aside and win to keep their hope alive in this world cup. Let's wait and watch, the D-DAY is tomorrow.
